Tummy Time with Boppy

Everett has been working out more than anyone else in this house. His main focus... his neck and back. These are some pictures from his first Boppy workout on June 30th.
He started strong with his head held high...
but crashed after a few seconds.
Then, he got his second wind and picked it up again for a bit...
but only a bit.
After several minutes he started pushing himself up and over the Boppy with his feet. Apparently he is an overachiever and wants to get a full body workout!
This pushing signaled the end.
Oh wait, scratch that. This signaled the end!
Lucky me, he is quick to forgive and forget!
His cheerleader and I were very proud of him!

Smiles

June 10th is when I marked down Everett's first smile. It was the first time he was looking me right in the eyes and smiled intentionally. There had been lots of random smiles before and there have been many, many more intentional ones since.

You'd think, from these pictures, that he smiles the most in his car and truck onesie but he is an equal opportunity smiler. His favorite thing? When I call him my handsome boy. That gets him every time!

Smiley Boy

When I took this video yesterday (13th) I planned to share it and say that I think he is close to laughing because of the noise he makes when smiling. Sure enough, he laughed for me today. Not a big one yet but still great!!

Best Big Sister

Dear Everett,
I want you to know that Emily has been in training to be your big sister for a long time. Starting back on September 14, 2010 at my first OB appointment.
Most of her training was in the area of going with the flow. As a big sister you have to be able to sit back, relax, and go along for the ride since babies need a lot of attention. It might look a little like just watching a show...
but it's more than that.
A big sister...
has to be able to watch a show even when the going gets tough.
Like when headphones are too big and require you wear some paper towels on your head.

She had some training in "waiting" when we went to the hospital for Liam's birth...
and in being a crochet assistant once Liam's head was ready for a hat.
There were many practice sessions...
in all baby care areas...
as well as some time spent practicing how to play the games unique to your birth hospital.
Along the way she told everyone about you (holding court with all of the nurses at my OB's office)...
and even held my hand and bottle during the glucose test.
When May 4th arrived she was well prepared for the show watching that was required to distract her from the labor pain I was in...
and by May 5th she was done waiting and practicing. She got straight to work...
and hasn't missed a beat.
It's as if she was born to be your big sister.

And she is doing a really great job - I just wanted to make sure you noticed!
Love,
Mama

Two Months

At two months old, Everett is smiling more and more. He enjoys looking at his toys and the noises they make when he hits them, though not really on purpose. He is awake much more than a month ago but still sleeps most of the day. He is really starting to stretch out his nights and is always happy if his big sister is around!

2 Month Doctor Visit

On July 1st we set off for the doctor. Everett's appointment was at 8:15 and lucky him, he slept the whole way there!
But once undressed and laid on the cold table he was wide awake, ready to flex his muscles.
His newest measurements have him in the 80th (height) and 85th (weight & head) percentiles and are as follows: length - 23.5 inches, weight - 13 lbs. 2 oz., head - 16.25
Emily helped me take a picture while Dr. L was checking him out. Dr. L was disappointed that we didn't warn her but she and Everett were getting along nicely so why interrupt?
After Dr. L oohed and aahed over our little love Emily got up on the table to talk to him about what the nurse was coming to do.
Since a shot was involved she felt that he needed a kiss but also told him that it would be okay.
"Did she say SHOT?!" He looked to me for extra reassurance...
but in the end, didn't need it. He started to cry a little but stopped just as fast as he started. Almost like he realized, "hey, it doesn't hurt anymore... why cry?!"
He did pretty well the rest of the day but did want to snuggle for most of his afternoon nap. His leg was very tender but he needed just one dose of Tylenol to get through.
Where have the past two months gone?!
