Emily can usually be found sitting at the kitchen table working hard on her latest drawing.
For the first 4.5 years of her life she had little interest in drawing, but in the last 4 months she has gone CRAZY. This was a drawing I took a picture of on December 28th because it was so detailed compared to previous attempts. (Cinderella, Anastasia, and Drizella)
The next one I photographed was on January 6th, a drawing she did for her cousin's (Cole) birthday card. It is Lauren, Cole, and Cooper with a basketball (the game all three of them played when we visited in November).
Then she got really into drawing mermaids - Jan. 16th - Ariel and Flounder(Ariel, with full background color this time)
Jan. 23rd - I couldn't believe her drawing of Tinkerbell and Periwinkle - I didn't even have to ask who it was and even their shoes have little poof balls
Feb. 20th - she drew a rhinoceros with a "how to" in her magazine and then added a sun, grass, birds and colored it all in - beginning to add a lot of details and coloring in is getting better
Feb. 26th - using a model...
to draw
March 2nd - O share week at school. Decided to draw a picture with a lot of O words.
"One orange ornate octopus playing an oboe and saying oh over a mermaid and an obstinate crab in the ocean." (I only helped with the speech bubble. And maybe some of the sentence too.)
March 6th - Daddy, Mama, and Emily playing with Leap Pads (I laughed at our butts but Emily assured me that those are our wings.) March 6th - first house and first car drawing
March 9th - mermaids
Daddy, Mama, and Emily with our friends Lina and Viola
our family
Rapunzel with a Leap Pad playing the Rapunzel game
March 21st - after returning from an egg hunt with friends, Emily decided that she wanted to make thank you notes for all of her friends that were there...
(I loved how she drew a pointing hand for the first time on Rachel's note. Emily said that she was at the zoo with Rachel and pointing to the lions.)
(riding the train with Reagan and Paige - twin sisters)
(our family with Mama and Daddy holding Emily and Everett)
(The funniest was when she drew a picture for a little brother of one of her friends and told me all about when he got in trouble and his mom picked him up to talk to him - note the arrow showing that he was on the ground but was then picked up.
For the note on the back she wanted to tell him about the bad choice he made and how to correct it in the future but I was able to talk her down to a nicer, less detailed, note.)
April 6th - a favorite - our family
April 7th - well proportioned body with great clothes! (under a rainbow)
April 7th - Mama taking Emily and Everett on one of our big walks
We are surprised daily by her progress and her interest is not waning. If you come here, you will most likely be asked to lead a "how to" on a drawing of your choice - it is one way she expands her repertoire. You may also be invited to participate in a drawing lead by her.
The pile of papers is always growing. In Mid-April, Emily and I sat down and hand selected pictures for everyone in our family and then mailed them off. We are back to a huge stack again. Does anyone need wallpaper?

Hmmmm! I didn't get the message that Emily might wish to learn from ME and instead told her SHE should teach me. I was chastened a few times for improper placement of mermaid seashell bustiers or wrong identifying head ornaments on Wendy and Peter! I am getting better though!
Love to love her!!
Wow I am so impressed! That last picture could have been drawn by a real grown up! Excellent work, Emily!
Oh my goodness,I am so impressed!! I love how you took photos to show her progression, i need to do that for cooper!!
I love the progression-that was a good Idea to document-you'll love looking back at that! The "butts" or not -so so funny :) and her stroller at the end was fabulous!!
