A (Mc)Verry Fun Weekend

On July 14th, Paul and I were able to celebrate the wedding of my second cousin, Michael, and his new bride Elisabeth.
Aunt Patty, Uncle Roger, and Mimi were there as well!  Bob (the groom's father, far left) is Mimi and Aunt Patty's cousin. His father, Pat, was Poppee's brother and he and his wife, Marlene (next to Mimi) live just a few miles from us now.
Mimi and Aunt Patty enjoyed seeing their cousins - 6 of Pat's 7 children were in attendance.  This is Joe.
Pat had 6 sons and one daughter, Judy, so most of the women were the wives (L-R Aunt Patty, Lisa, Mimi, Andrea, Sarah, Helen, Judy).
The wedding (setting, weather, etc.) was beautiful...
and a lot of fun...
but the fun didn't end there.  The next day we were invited over to Bob and Marlene's for a BBQ.  The kids, unintentionally, matched each other and Mimi perfectly.  It was a "must take" picture moment.
Bob and Marlene are always very kind and didn't mind when Everett was trying to make off with all of their "ball" shaped fruit.
And it wouldn't be a party at their house without a badminton game or twenty.
Everett didn't care that the birdie wasn't spherical.  He knew it was a sport...
and knew he wanted to be a part of it.
Emily too.

Five of the six brothers were there.  These are the twins John and Bill with Bob.
John, known as Papa John to the whole family, really delighted Emily with all of his magical McVerry tricks.  (Mimi and her cousins have fond memories of my Great Uncle Michael playing these same tricks on them as children.)
And even though Everett wasn't a part of any of the tricks, he was delighted with Papa John as well.
After all, Papa John was willing to share his ice cream!

I think Everett ended up eating more than John.
Before heading out, we HAD to take a group picture...
(Brian, Bill, Bob, Rick, me, Helen, Judy, Mimi, Emily, Bobby, Carly, Sarah, Marlene, Everett, Lisa, John, Mark, Andrea, Joe - Frank is the brother who was not in attendance)
and just before packing up, I finally mentioned that I wanted to get in on some badminton myself.  :)
I paired up with my second cousin, Carly,...
while Everett enjoyed some more time to walk around with his birdie and a racket (a little more sturdy racket this time)...

and Emily found Papa John for some more laughs.
It was a fun afternoon and a good follow up to a fun wedding!
Oh, and Carly and I won.
In case anyone was wondering.  ;)

** When Emily saw the last picture, she said how much she liked it.  I told her that I posed like that because I won and she said, "you won?!?!  I am SO PROUD OF YOU!"  Thank you, Emily.  Thank you very much.

I love this post. What a fun mini reunion Michael's wedding afforded us! That Everett and the badminton birdie was hilarious! He would not be denied!
