On Sunday (8/5) we were back to the boxes...
and on Monday (8/6) we packed some goodies for Nana and Grandpa (they had a long drive ahead) and bid farewell.
Their help was so critical to us in this move and those treats don't even come close to saying thank you. Now, don't tell them, but we have something special up our sleeve for when they return. After saying goodbye, we raced over to the old house to meet the cleaning crew and Emily got a chance to do a little touch up painting...
and both kids enjoyed running around in the big empty rooms.
Then, on Tuesday (8/7), Everett and I returned one last time to the old house...
to hand over the keys and say goodbye to our faithful dog at the front door.
(That dog was always at attention and loyal to us even though he wasn't "ours.")
Now, in the middle of all of this moving, I somehow decided that it was a good time to finally order our harvester ants for the ant hill (from Aunt Cissy) and they arrived that day.
We had no time to waste, so after Emily's bath that evening, we set up their home. We started by putting in all of the sand and then inserted a rod to give them their first tunnel to work from.
Next, we released the ants...
and watched them get to work.
It wasn't long before they were working together to haul out huge (compared to their bodies) clumps of sand...
and they were very happy to receive a little food.
And as we tunneled through all of our stuff and made a new home over the next several days, so did they.I guess it WAS good timing! ;)

I bet it was hard to say good-bye to your old house and your faithful doggie statue. What better way to begin your adventures in your new house with an ant hill. Those little guys sure did get to work quickly. Love it!
Now that ant farm really is cool, we'll have to think about getting one of those! As long as it doesn't break inside the house that is:) So sad saying goodbye to your house, huh? Luckily it looks like you moved into an equally beautiful one!
Awesome ant hill project. Great way to watch them up close!
I was sad to say goodbye and it wasn't even my house! Such a nice doggie too! Ants???? OK, interesting, yes.
