Rose Parade 2014

New Year's Day, and time for our third trip to the Rose Parade!  It is always an early morning and a tad chilly - this year we had Nana and Grandpa joining us again!
When we arrived, we had our breakfast.  But, I found Emily (who had eaten on the road) just gazing at the sky.
Our spot is almost at the end of the parade route, so we usually have some time spent waiting.  Where better than in the middle of Colorado Blvd?  (It is a party atmosphere)
I am just going to include the pictures I took of the floats this year.  Not comprehensive but a decent sampling.
(Vin Scully - Go Dodgers!)

I made sure to capture this band from Pennsylvania because an old co-worker's (from San Antonio) daughter was marching in it!
She was in the perfect spot for me to find her AND the band stopped in front of us for a bit.  I got a lot of great shots for her mom and Grandpa snagged some video too.

(had to capture this guy "in a pickle" for Papa)

One of the floats broke down before it reached us and there was a big gap in the parade while they fixed the situation.  That meant more time to party in the street!

(Everett was racing around and saying "on your marks" - like in this shot - until he fell on his face.  Emily's dancing feet and Everett's running feet didn't get along well.)

(float being towed)

(I wanted to get this Globetrotter because it was "Flight Time" from the Amazing Race!)
(Garry Marshall)

Everett liked checking out the program with Nana and figuring out what was coming next.

The Sea World float was of note this year because of the backlash from the movie Blackfish.  There were more police escorts than Sea World employees and plenty of protestors too.

(this woman wanted to really advertise for eHarmony - her beau/husband appeared tired of the charade)
This year I took a picture of the tow trucks that come through after the floats.  There are so many there available that they are their own parade at the end.
It was another great beginning to the new year!
(I was on jacket duty on our return walk to the car.  It REALLY warms up during the morning!)

So funny...We watched the parade or at least started it and Sophia all of a sudden says," so it's just flowers and plants and that's it? That's boring". So we changed the channel. Looks better in person. :)
