Sand, Sand, Wonderful Sand!

On January 28th I pushed for a quick midday trip to the beach! It was a beautiful Saturday and, well, I LOVE the beach! Even though Everett had been several times before, there was something new for him to discover that day! He was ready!

First, he got a chance to look at the ocean and watch Emily frolic in it a little.

Then, we plopped him down in the sand. For the first time.

He didn't care about Emily and the water anymore...
he was trying to figure out what in the world this stuff was...

and what he should do with it.

He brushed some across his mouth after a bit...

but then got a big handful...
and stuck it right in his mouth.

He may not have loved it but that didn't stop him from doing it several more times.

After quite a bit of stationary play time he leaned forward...
to hang out on his hands and knees a little.

But, when he wanted to move, he went right to his tummy.
Army crawling at the beach is messy.
And at that point he could handle thinking about something other than the sand, so he checked out...
Emily and Daddy.
That's when I set him up with some toys!

And he learned the hard way that the beach slopes down toward the ocean.

His mouth knew that sand was foreign and unwelcome so his salivary glands went into overdrive...
and I remembered why I should never leave home without the beach umbrella.
It was a beautiful day...
and we all had a blast...
during our brief beach outing.
Who needs summer?!

What a great day. Certainly one of the perks of living in southern CA!

Seeing the beach through the eyes of a baby is so awesome! It looks like Everett's first sand experience went well! His facial expressions about his new discovery are priceless, especially the ones post-sand eating. Good fun in SoCal!

Another beach baby! His concentration on this stuff just cracks me up! Can't wait to see his reaction to crawling into the water!
Sweet boy!
