Everett has always been able to communicate very well. With a combination of signs, pointing, and words sprinkled in, it has never been difficult to understand exactly what he needs or wants. But, lately his expressive vocabulary is really growing. So many more of the words we knew he understood are coming out of his mouth. And every time he feels success with a spoken word, he tucks it in his memory to use again. I sat down and tried to think of the spontaneous words he says and came up with this list. I am quite confident I have missed some...
Spontaneous Words and Phrases: yes - no - star - Everett - Emily - Mama - Daddy - Grandpa - Nana - Papa - Mimi - ball - water - night night - bye bye - hi - bear - bongo - hello (both the greeting and it's also what he calls a phone) - Handy Manny - Mickey - Minnie - Donald - Goofy - uh-oh - stuck - okay - waddle - more - moon - flower - bar - snack - apple - waffle - cereal - go - bike - whoa - tickle - nose - shoe - boot - banana - boat - goat - doggie - cow - pig - duck - bubble - deer - bee - crocodile - owl - help - snow - one more - Go, Mama! - no thank you - yes please - I don't know - up please - world (such a good story with this one) - airplane - baby - iPad - ho ho ho - walk - there it is - help please - down please - book
There are a few things that he just won't stop signing. Those things are...
Signs: milk, water, binky (It's funny, he signs water if he wants to drink it. But, if he sees water in rain, fountains, bodies of water, sprinklers, etc. he says, "wawa.")
There are also a lot of things, mostly animals, that he uses sounds to reference instead of saying their names.
Sounds: lion, elephant, monkey, horse, cat, coyote, lovey (For lovey, it is a specific sound I have always used when referring to his lovey that he has also been using for too long to remember. But he doesn't ever try to say the word lovey.)
This doesn't really showcase his spontaneous vocabulary (except for the "whoa" video, that was spontaneous) but it's a few video clips to hear his sweet little voice. Aside from his spontaneous vocab, he will say anything you ask him to...
